I am here to offer unconditional and nonjudgmental support through labour and birth and/or during the postnatal period. Please do take a look at my website or contact me to find out more about me and my services.
Hi, I live in Godalming in Surrey with my husband and two beautiful sons, born in 2010 and 2014, who bring me so much joy everyday. I have always been very maternal and felt the need to ‘mother’ but when I became a mother myself my fascination for all things pregnancy, baby and birth related grew into a passion, I crave related information and could talk on the subject all day long!
Becoming an Ofsted registered childminder only expanded my mothering instincts and whilst I loved it, I couldn’t help but want to be more involved with women and families at the very start of their parenting journey and so I have followed this path, completed a Doula course with Nurturing Birth and now have the privilege of being a mentored Doula.
Doulas provide unwavering support for the whole family through pregnancy, birth and the early days of parenthood. Filling a role that new mothers and families have always needed but that society has now altered. We no longer reside in large family groups with strong experienced women at our sides to help and support through birth and beyond. Families are more spread out, but the need for a supportive motherly figure has not changed. Doulas are there to listen, give confidence and not judge. Offering flexible, practical and emotional support we work in women’s own homes as well as in hospitals and birth centres helping to empower women to have a positive birth and/or postnatal experience.
While doulas are not there to change outcomes there is growing evidence that having a birth or postnatal doula brings many benefits. From reducing intervention rates, shortening labour and improving the condition of babies at birth. While this research is important, it’s the less tangible benefits of having a nonjudgmental companion during a life-altering event that most woman remember and value. A Doula also brings a calm persona and a listening ear at a time when it is needed the most.
Please do contact me to discuss any of the following services, they can all be tailored to suit you, your partner and your family and we will begin with a no obligation informal chat to start the ball rolling and to ensure that all parties are happy to proceed with our Doula/Client relationship.
As your birth Doula I will meet you for at least two antenatal appointments to discuss your pregnancy, birth wishes and how I can help you and your partner during this time.
I will be on call for you 24/7 from 38 weeks of your pregnancy and then support you physically and emotionally through labour and birth whether at home, hospital or birth centre. I will then come and see you for at least one postnatal visit to debrief the birth and see how you are settling into life with baby.
As your Postnatal Doula I will be there to offer practical and emotional support to you and your family as you settle into life with a new baby. This can either begin as soon as you are ready after the birth or perhaps when your partner has returned to work and can last as long as you feel you need me although normally for a minimum of 20 hours. We can discuss in detail how regularly I will visit and how I can best help at this time. I'm very happy to carry out light duties around the home, look after pets, siblings and of course baby while you rest. I can also signpost local resources and help with feeding and general baby care.
As a mentored Doula registered with Doula UK I am currently working towards becoming a fully Recognised Birth and Postnatal Doula and I have a Doula mentor that I report to and draw guidance from. Through this process I provide documentation to my mentor and reflect upon my experiences, as such, I charge a lower rate than a recognised birth or postnatal doula to reflect this.
